CHICAGO (AP) — Ozzie Albies hit a leadoff drive for his 13th homer, Jose Bautista connected for a three-run shot and the Atlanta Braves held off the Chicago Cubs for a 6-5 victory. Julio Teheran pitched six solid innings and Tyler Flowers hit his first homer this season as NL-leading Atlanta won for the sixth time in seven games. The surprising Braves moved 10 games over .500 for the first time since July 28, 2014.
CHICAGO (AP) — Ben Zobrist was joined by Chicago Cubs teammates Kyle Schwarber and Steve Cishek in wearing black spikes on despite a warning from Major League Baseball that he was in violation of the sport’s uniform regulations. Zobrist posted a letter from MLB on Instagram last weekend that cited him for violating regulations requiring t least 51 percent of the exterior of a player’s shoes be the club’s designated primary shoe color. For the Cubs, that color is blue.
CHICAGO (AP) — It has been almost a year since Danielle Kang won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship for her first LPGA Tour victory, and her life looks pretty much. But she is enjoying the freedom that arrived after her breakthrough performance at Olympia Fields outside Chicago. She had been placing a lot of pressure on herself to win, and now that’s finally out of the way. Says Kang: “I can breathe. I feel free from myself.”
UNDATED (AP) — Even with the conference finals going on, the NBA’s eyes turn to the future this week. The draft lottery is Tuesday night, and then about 70 players will partake in the draft combine that starts on Wednesday. Those events are both happening in Chicago, as are some various league meetings such as a gathering of the league’s general managers and other front-office types.
