TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Seneca, Marquette advance in softball postseason

SOFTBALL

Seneca 5, Peotone 4

SENECA – Lyda Robinson hit a go-ahead two-run single in the fifth inning as the second-seeded Lady Irish (31-3) survived the seventh-seeded Lady Blue Devils in the IHSA Class 2A Seneca Regional semifinals.

Robinson added a double in the contest, and Kylie Winsor finished with an RBI single and two RBIs. Maggie Carpenter struck out eight in the complete game victory. Seneca set the school record for most wins in a season with the win, per the team Twitter account.

Seneca will play in Saturday’s regional championship game at 11 a.m. against No. 4 Chicago Christian, who earned a 5-4 win over No. 6 Wilmington in last night’s other semifinal.

Marquette 12, LaMoille-Ohio 0 (5 innings)

NEWARK – Makenna Tkach tossed a perfect game with 13 strikeouts as the second-seeded Lady Crusaders dispatched the No. 8 Lady Lions in the IHSA Class 1A Newark Regional semifinals.

Allie Snook launched a three-run homer and finished with two hits and four RBIs for the Lady Crusaders (22-5). Aubrey McCallum added a two-run double and contributed three RBIs in the victory.

Marquette advances to the regional championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. and will play the winner of today’s contest between No. 4 Newark and No. 6 Serena.

Pontiac 4, Ottawa 2

PONTIAC – Sloan Gayan hit an RBI triple and finished with three hits total for Ottawa (23-5). Abi Claus had the Lady Pirates’ only other hit. Abby Bukantis allowed four runs in four innings to take the loss.

Illinois Valley Central 4, Streator 0

STREATOR – A day after being no-hit by Pontiac, Streator (8-21) managed only a single from Ellie Magana in the shutout loss. Aubrey Durdan scattered three hits and a walk and struck out four in the complete game loss, with two of the runs earned.

GIRLS SOCCER

Morris 2, Ottawa 1

KANKAKEE – The sixth-seeded Lady Pirates (9-7-1) saw their season come to an end in the IHSA Class 2A Kankakee Regional semifinals.

Streator 4, Sterling 1

STERLING – The third-seeded Lady Bulldogs eliminated No. 5 Sterling on the Golden Warriors’ home field, and advanced to the IHSA Class 2A Sterling Regional championship game against No. 2 Geneseo on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Lady Leafs eliminated No. 8 La Salle-Peru last night, 9-0.

BASEBALL

Ottawa-Streator pushed back a day

UNDATED – The non-conference games between the longtime rivals were postponed to today at 4:30 p.m. The varsity game will be at Ottawa while the sophomores will play in Streator per the original schedule.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Ottawa 5, Sandwich 0

OTTAWA – Michael Bruner struck out 13 batters in the four-hit shutout victory. Matt Ahearn drove in two runs for the Vikings while Andrew Shehorn contributed two hits.
