MILWAUKEE (AP) — Anthony Rizzo homered down the right-field line on the first pitch of a five-run 11th inning to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 and jump into first place in the NL Central. Rizzo turned on a fastball down the middle from Matt Albers for a towering shot that snapped a 2-all tie. The Cubs scored six runs over the last four innings against the Brewers’ normally lights-out bullpen.

CHICAGO (AP) — Carlos Carrasco struck out 11 while pitching two-hit ball over seven innings, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 4-0. Michael Brantley hit his 11th homer and the AL Central leaders took advantage of another wild outing by Lucas Giolito to win for the fifth time in six games.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Former Clemson quarterback and highly touted recruit Hunter Johnson is transferring to Northwestern. Johnson will have to sit out this season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He will have three years of eligibility left. Northwestern has senior Clayton Thorson coming back from a knee injury and set to start at quarterback this season.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois says it will spend $30 million on renovations to its 20-year-old basketball practice facility. The school says the project will more than double the building’s square footage and benefit both the men’s and women’s teams. The school says money for the $30 million project will come through a fundraising campaign.
