Information from the Illinois Department of Human Services shows that over 35-million doses of 18 different prescription opioids were sold in LaSalle County between 2012 and 2017.
There were over 492,000 opioid prescriptions given in that time.
That’s enough for nearly five prescriptions for every person in the county.
Attorney Melissa Sims requested the information via a Freedom of Information Request to the Illinois Department of Human Service. It was given to WCMY News by LaSalle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly.
The LaSalle County Board earlier this week approved hiring Sims to represent the county in opioid-related lawsuits.
Sims says she wants to take the companies that dole out prescription opioids to task for their role in the opioid addiction crisis.
