BASEBALL: Streaks qualify for Mickey Mantle regional

UNDATED – The Ottawa Knights of Columbus Streaks rallied to place second in the AABC Mickey Mantle Wood Bat State Tournament, a finish that secured their qualification for the Mid-America Regional this week.

The Streaks opened with a 5-2 win over Niles, bolstered by the pitching of Shane Reynolds, who scattered three hits and struck out seven over 6 1/3 innings on the hill. Jace Addis tallied a pair of hits in the win.

Addis would add a triple and two RBIs in the Streaks’ next contest, but the Midwest Future Prospects rallied from a three-run deficit to win 8-5. The teams would rematch in the championship game, where Midwest Future Prospects would cruise to an 8-0 victory.

The Streaks defeated Niles a second time, a 5-4 triumph in the consolation bracket to reach the final. Reynolds doubled as part of a two-hit, two-RBI day. Grant Waldron tossed a complete game to earn the pitching win.

The Mid-America Regional begins Thursday in Coldwater, Mich.
