Health Department offers tips to avoid stomach virus affecting Illinois

Although there aren’t any known cases of it in LaSalle County, there are reports of a highly contagious stomach virus making its way across the state.

Flu-like symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, and fever have been reported to take around 24 or 48-hours to clear up.

LaSalle County Health Department Health Educator Jenny Barrie says people can reduce their risk of catching a stomach bug, and other illnesses, by practicing good hygiene.

Good hand washing means lathering up with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.

If you, or someone at home, catch a stomach bug Barrie says to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and to clean surfaces the sick person comes into contact with.

If symptoms persist, a call to the doctor is needed.
