The Ottawa Kiwanis Club started raising money four years ago for a handicap-accessible playground. Some of the equipment is installed already at Lincoln-Douglas Park. The club gave a $60,000 check to the city last fall for the rest of it.
Club Pres. Lloyd Chapman says there’s a holdup. The city hasn’t drawn the plans so the equipment can be put in. Until that’s done, specially made slides aren’t going in.
Chapman says the Kiwanis Club took on the project after finding out that 13% of children in Ottawa have disabilities and can’t do things on a standard playground.
