An Ottawa man is currently deployed in Aynor, South Carolina to help with Tropical Storm Florence relief.
Red Cross Volunteer Steve Pitstick says most of the damage in his area isn’t so much from the storm itself, but from its aftermath.
Aynor Middle School, where Pitstick was assigned had about 165 people when the tropical storm hit. Now that the rivers are beginning to recede, his shelter is shutting down, but more are opening in other regions where rivers are swelling.
However, just because waters are receding doesn’t mean that challenges caused by the storm are over.
Pitstick says that many people have homes that may have flooded and don’t have the money or insurance coverage to make the repairs.
