OTTAWA – Roy G. Giannotti, age 84, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018, at the Illinois Veterans Home at LaSalle.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to Noon Saturday, September 29th at Gladfelter – Roetker Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at Noon. Private interment with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will follow in West Serena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Roy was born June 26, 1934 in Cicero, Illinois, a son of Patrick Abraham and Gladys E. (Lorr) Giannotti. He married Karla A. Kail March 30, 1957 in Streator. Roy is survived by Karla, his wife of 61 years; his children, Gina (Gregory) Mathre of Newark, Joe Giannotti of Ottawa, Tony (Cassie) Giannotti of Seneca and Teresa A. Nielsen of Tucson, Arizona. He also leaves grandchildren, Ryan (Sandy) Mathre, Rachel Giannotti, Megan Mathre, Toby (Elaine) Nielsen, Joshua (Tierney) Giannotti, Jeremy (Amanda) Mathre, Danielle (Joseph) Rolnik, Tyler Giannotti, Nick Giannotti and Chelsea (Steven) Frazee; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine (Al) Grabow of Cape Coral, Florida and Patricia (Howard) Valentine of Dade City, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Justin Patrick Giannotti and a son-in-law, William Nielsen.
Roy was of the Catholic faith. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Irwin during the Korean War. Roy retired from Caterpillar in Aurora after 32 years of faithful employment. After retirement, he worked another 18 years at Baileys Harbor Water Treatment Plant in Door County, Wisconsin. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed fishing, golf, woodworking and following the Chicago Bears. He was a dedicated family man who cherished time spent with each and every member of the family
