THURSDAY ROUNDUP: Serena Volleyball falls in Little 10 semifinals


Newark, Earlville to play for Little 10 Conference Tournament title

SOMONAUK – In the tournament semifinals, the top-seeded Lady Norsemen defeated No. 4 Serena, 25-10, 25-13. No. 2 Earlville needed three sets to top No. 3 Indian Creek, 25-17, 20-25, 25-18.

Newark and Earlville will play for the championship tonight at 7 p.m., while Serena and Indian Creek play for third place at 6 p.m.

Also Thursday, Hiawatha rallied past Leland, 17-25, 25-23, 25-14 to advance to the consolation championship match, which will be played tonight against LaMoille-Ohio at 5 p.m.

Plano def. Streator, 25-17, 25-13

PLANO – Anna Yanek swung for four kills, and Taylor Hoskins pushed nine assists for the Lady Bulldogs (6-25, 2-6).

Earlville-Leland-Paw Paw wins Little 10 Conference Tournament

HINCKLEY – The No. 1-seeded Red Raiders rolled past No. 2 Newark-Seneca in the championship match, 3-1.

No. 4 Hinckley-Big Rock blanked third-seeded Somonauk, 2-0, to claim third place.

No. 6 Serena lost the consolation match to No. 5 Indian Creek, 7-0.


Plano def. Streator, 25-17, 25-15

PLANO – India Linder and Kristen Lane each finished with two kills and three aces for Streator. Mallory Goethe added three kills and an ace, and Halie Grace finished with two kills, two aces and a block in the loss.


Streator def. Plano, 25-20, 25-18

PLANO – Maci Byers led the Lady Bulldogs with five kills. Zoey Dearth added three kills, Hanna Gotch and Zoey Puckett each tallied 10 points, and Abby Bedeker contributed eight points to the victory.


Grand Ridge loses two to Milton Pope

GRAND RIDGE – Grand Ridge dropped the seventh grade game, 29-9. Jenna Simons led the Lady Mohawks (5-5) with three points. Abby Johannson, Nora Cave and Ava Offermann finished with two points apiece.

The Lady Mohawks lost the eighth grade game, 22-21. Marissa Vickers finished with 14 points for Grand Ridge (3-4), Faith Maltby tallied five points and Cave chipped in two points in the loss.
