The Marseilles City Council on Wednesday voted to update the city ordinance that sets the max price for trash hauling in town.
The price was capped at $16.50 for the last eight years. The new cap is $20.
Mayor Jim Hollenbeck:
Republic Services raised their monthly rate to $20 recently without realizing it was a violation of city policy. A representative told the city council last month they had to raise rates to keep up with the cost of recycling.
Mayor Hollenbeck anticipates the city will most likely have to adjust their ordinance again in the future to keep up with rising costs.
