THURSDAY ROUNDUP: L-P/Ottawa/Streator/Earlville swimmers win at Kankakee


La Salle-Peru/Ottawa/Streator/Earlville 132, Kankakee 126, Crete Monee 36

KANKAKEE – Streator swimmer Cora Walker was first to the wall in the 500-yard freestyle (6 minutes, 12.24 seconds), and was runner-up in the 50 freestyle (27.82). Walker was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay (4:28.32), along with Ottawa swimmers Sam Satterfield and Emma Haage. Another Ottawa swimmer, Julia Gromm was on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:50.19), and placed second in the 200 Individual Medley (2:36.16).

L-P swimmers accounted for the remaining victories. Ashley Heagy won the 100 butterfly (1:03.17) and 100 backstroke (1:03.34), Peyton Heagy won the 100 freestyle (56.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.84), and Americus Berg was first in the 200 freestyle (2:19.78). Heagy and Heagy swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with fellow L-P student Emma Mertes, while Berg was on the 400 freestyle relay team.

Ottawa student Emma White was third in the 500 freestyle (6:54.15) and Earlville swimmer Paige Marks finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.55).

Grand Ridge splits at Oglesby Washington

OGLESBY – The Lady Mohawks (8-5) earned a 12-11 win in the seventh grade game. Nora Cave, Abby Johansson and Kylie Rhodes each scored four points in the victory.

Grand Ridge slipped in the eighth grade game, 19-12. Marisa Vickers scored six points, Sadie Lechel added four points and Rhodes chipped in two points for the Lady Mohawks (4-6).
