Visitor numbers are down this year at Staved Rock State Park.
Site Supervisor Kerry Novak says they expect the final numbers for the year to come in at around 2.3 to 2.5-million people, at least 400,000 fewer than last year.
He says that’s not a bad thing.
That means less wear and tear on park facilities and trails.
It’s also easier for conservation police to deal with slightly smaller crowds. There’s only five CPOs to cover an area that extends to parks all the way to Rockford.
Novak says 2018’s numbers are closer to what is ideal for the park.
