Default decision: county will keep paying deputy auditors while they’re barred from working

LaSalle County government’s decision makers appear to have decided to keep paying two deputy auditors who aren’t allowed at work while they face criminal charges.

The County Board’s Salary and Labor Committee was in closed session for more than an hour Wednesday morning. Chairman Joseph Savitch says the committee didn’t talk about the deputy auditors and he doesn’t know if or when it will. The case wasn’t on the committee’s agenda for action and it’s not on the full County Board’s agenda Thursday.

With no action, 44-year old Tori Artman and 54-year old Pamela Wright will continue being paid for work the County Board has prohibited them from doing. They’ve been charged with stealing around $3,000 in overtime pay for work they didn’t do, and Auditor Jody Wilkinson is charged with helping them in the scheme.
