Local lawmakers on their hopes for the new General Assembly term

New Illinois State Senator Brian Stewart says working together across the aisle will be better than political bickering. He and the other lawmakers elected and reelected in November took their oaths of office Wednesday. Stewart says the state should work on things that boost jobs and bring economic prosperity. He represents the 45th Senate District in northern LaSalle County.

Sen. Sue Rezin says Illinois needs property tax reform, smaller government, and thriving schools and job creators. She represents the 38th District which covers most of LaSalle County.

St. Rep. David Welter says the state needs better opportunities so the best and brightest don’t leave after they graduate. He’s from the 75th House District which covers part of eastern LaSalle County.

St. Rep. Tom Demmer from the 90th House District says he’s looking forward to more bipartisan work. He says the budget remains a significant challenge. Demmer says lawmakers need to be realistic about where the revenue comes from.
