State awards $393,300 for housing improvements in Marseilles

The state is giving the city of Marseilles a grant of more than $393,000 for housing. The city is one of 13 communities across Illinois sharing in a $6 million grant announcement from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

In the fall, Marseilles applied for home repair grants for low to moderate income people in the area south of Bluff St. and east of Peoria St. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck persuaded people to fill out surveys to help the city qualify.

A state news release says up to $45,000 may be used for each qualifying home. Hollenbeck expects to use the funds on about nine homes.

You can hear Hollenbeck say more about applying for and getting the grant in this interview which aired live on WCMY’s 5pm news Friday.
