Streator Fire Chief wants to triple heart attack survival rate

Streator Fire Chief Gary Bird believes he can triple the number of heart attack survivors in his city. He says just 5% of Streator heart attack sufferers who arrive via ambulance at a hospital survive. Bird plans to get them up to 15%.

Bird told the City Council last week, he wants to train 25% of the people in Streator to perform CPR. Then there’s a better chance that someone having a heart problem is in the company of someone who can help.
