St. Sen. Stewart believes minimum wage hike won’t work as intended

St. Sen. Brian Stewart doesn’t think the minimum wage hike has been thought out. The Republican from the 45th Illinois Senate District says what’s a good minimum wage for Chicago may be hard for employers to afford in rural Illinois. Some businesses can raise their prices as long as people are willing to pay more. Others may just leave the state.

Stewart says a lot of the minimum wage earners work for local governments that have to come up with the money through other means. He says that’ll mean raising taxes.

Stewart spoke about it through the Illinois Senate Republicans press office.
