ROUNDUP: Streator eliminated from girls’ basketball postseason

Season ends for Streator

PONTIAC – Streator was eliminated from the postseason Monday night with a 54-26 loss to No. 7 Prairie Central in the IHSA Class 3A Pontiac Regional quarterfinals.

Per IHSA ScoreZone, Lyniah Anderson scored 10 points for the ninth-seeded Lady Bulldogs (7-17).

SOFTBALL

Stecken named among ICA Coaches of the Year

UNDATED – Seneca Head Coach Dan Stecken was selected among the 32 ICA Softball IHSA Sectional Coaches of the Year for 2018.

Stecken, a Class 2A choice, led the Lady Irish to a 33-5 record and a berth in the Sweet 16.

Scott Siuda of Somonauk (1A) and Rob Ruppert of Saint Bede (2A) were also among the selections.

Brad Oakes, Marquette Grade School coach, was one of two IESA Coaches of the Year named for Class 1A.

YOUTH SWIMMING

Ottawa Dolphins finish second at Illinois Valley Distance Challenge

PERU – The Dolphins tallied 309 points Saturday, finishing behind only Illinois Valley with 455. The Streator Stingrays finished fourth overall with 68 points.

Addisyn Budnick won three events for Ottawa. Cole Bressendorf, Lucas Farabaugh, Addison Fultz, Danny Marini and Adam Swanson won two events each.

Kenny Carlson, Alexa Dunlap, Erin Dunlap, Brennen Heaver, Finley Jobst, Gabe Marini, Reed McGrath, Lily Mustered, Jaxon Neu and Owen Phillips were each first to the wall in one event.

McGrath, Mustered, Neu, Evelyn Clayton and Gabe Marini swam all of their events in personal-best times, among the 53 personal-best swims on the day for Ottawa.

FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL

Ottawa wins two last week

OTTAWA – Ottawa earned a 57-31 win over Seneca on Friday night. Aaron Threadgill and Luke Cushing scored 10 points apiece for Ottawa. Anthony Miller and Dillen Bailey added eight points apiece.

Thursday night, Ottawa routed Sterling, 65-34. Cushing led the Vikings with 11 points, Bailey added nine points and Miller poured in eight points in the victory.

FRESHMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ottawa concludes season wins

OTTAWA – Ottawa won two games Saturday, picking up a 43-10 win over La Salle-Peru and a 40-26 triumph against Kaneland.

Against L-P, Molly Buscher scored nine points and Brooke Waddell contributed eight points.

In the Kaneland game, Olivia Long tallied 10 points to lead the Lady Vikings (20-1) and Gabi Krueger chipped in eight points.

Ottawa won the NIB12 Conference championship, the conference tournament, the Morris Tournament and the Ottawa Invitational during a successful season.
