Prince is one of those artists (like Bowie, the Beatles, Rolling Stones) where their catalog is so deep and varied that its hard to go through and discuss their roots. Prince, in many ways, can’t be shoved into one genre. And yes, he definitely has roots and influences, but he HIMSELF is where it begins for so many that followed. So we tried to just do one Prince album, and even THAT was a lot to tackle. So if you listened on the air, you’ll be treated to BONUS content in the on-demand version here.

Our Roots song(s) of the Day:
We talked a bit in the show about the rivalry between Prince and Michael Jackson. Neither of them spoke about it all that much. But this video does a pretty good job bringing it to the forefront
See the full Prince/Jackson dance-off battle at a James Brown concert that Quincy Jones refers to in the above video HERE
And any post about Prince wouldn’t be complete without footage of the best guitar solo ever captured on video. If you’ve never watched Prince join some of the Traveling Wilbury’s to honor George Harrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, you owe it to yourself to take 6 minutes and watch this.
Next week we’ll do Roots on the Doors!
