CHICAGO (AP) — Brendan Perlini scored three goals against his former team for his first career hat trick, and the Chicago Blackhawks ripped the Arizona Coyotes 7-1 for their third straight win. Patrick Kane fired in his 41st goal as Chicago moved within five points of the second wild card in the Western Conference. Jonathan Toews, Brandon Saad and Chris Kunitz also scored, and Corey Crawford made 24 saves.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bears have re-signed tight end Ben Braunecker to a two-year contract. The 6-foot-4 Braunecker made three starts for the Bears last season, including the playoff loss to Philadelphia, and appeared in 16 games in all. In three seasons, he has seven catches for 83 yards.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Justin Simon of St. John’s has been chosen Big East Conference defensive player of the year. The league also announced the head coaches selected DePaul sophomore Paul Reed as the most improved player; Butler guard Paul Jorgensen as the conference’s sixth man of the year; and Butler center Nate Fowler for its sportsmanship award.
CHICAGO (AP) — Natisha Hiedeman and Allazia Blockton each scored 23 points to help No. 13 Marquette beat Georgetown 75-62 to advance to its third straight Big East Conference title game. Blockton gave Marquette a 20-point lead, 34-14, on a 3-point play with 6:27 remaining in the second quarter but the Golden Eagles didn’t make another field goal the rest of the half as Georgetown pulled within 39-33 after a closing 19-5 run.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois officials say 343 bobcats were taken by hunters and trappers this winter. The Department of Natural Resources announced on Friday results from the bobcat season that ran from Nov. 10 to Feb. 15. The department says it issued 1,000 permits to hunters and trappers for the season. The harvest limit on the season was 375 animals. Pike County in western Illinois recorded the most bobcats taken, at 25. There were 20 harvested in Randolph County, southeast of St. Louis.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sam Griesel had a season-high 20 points as North Dakota State narrowly defeated Western Illinois 76-73 in the semifinals of the Summit League Conference Tourney. Vinnie Shahid had 14 points for North Dakota State (17-15).
