Marquette advances to IESA State
THORNTON – Marquette knocked off Trinity Catholic of La Salle to win Monday night’s IESA Class 1A Wolcott Setional, 25-12, 25-13.

Kaylee Killelea had 10 points, eight kills and 10 assists for the Lady Knights (20-1), who will next face Royal Prairieview Ogden (18-7) in the State quarterfinals Friday night at 8:15 at Pana High School.
Lauren Machetta added nine points, six aces, four digs and two kills for Marquette. Lindsey Kaufmann added nine kills and 10 assists, and Eva McCallum tallied eight kills and a block. Gabby Hortega chipped in two kills and a block, and Darby Morganflash finished with seven digs.
Serena recognizes athletes at award ceremony
UNDATED – Senior Maddie Holdiman left Sunday’s ceremonies with plenty of awards, earning Most Valuable Player honors, the free throw award, recognition as a team captain and a special award for finishing with 1,137 career points.
Holdiman averaged 13.4 points per game for Serena this season and canned 64 percent of her free throw tries.
Fellow captain Malachi Staton earned the Most Improved award. Katie Baker won the rebounding and assist awards after finishing with 166 boards and 77 assists, for averages of 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Elly Kuhn won the Defensive Award, True Kempiak earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Marley Kaforski was honored with the Desire and Dedication Award.
