Chicago woman charged in Streator murder opts for trial by judge

A Chicago woman accused of driving the car used in a robbery that turned into a murder in Streator last year has a trial scheduled to start on May 9. The lawyer for 22-year old Ashanti Roberts told Judge H. Chris Ryan Thursday, he and his client are ready for a trial by judge.

In the meantime, 17-year old Tamil Adams of Dolton is scheduled for sentencing in the case on April 4. A jury convicted him in February. Twenty-six year old Hashim Waite of Chicago has a case update with the judge next Friday. He’s not presently on the trial schedule.

The three were charged with the fatal shooting of 33-year old Maria De La Torre in her driveway last May.

An earlier version of this story gave an incorrect date for Tamil Adams’ sentencing.
