Government transparency at issue for Marseilles mayoral candidates

Marseilles mayoral candidate Michelle Klock told a crowd at a candidate forum Wednesday at the Lions Club that transparency is what the city government needs to work on.

Incumbent Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says otherwise.

Transparency was also an issue for mayoral candidate Don Sinclair.

All three candidates agreed that the city needs to expand out to I-80.

Hollenbeck and Klock support annexing land to the east of town to allow for a campground development. Sinclair says he’d like to hear more about objections from the neighbors of the proposed development.

Sinclair wants to build some kind of field house for young people to have for sports over the winter. Hollenbeck wants to get more housing repair grants for the whole town. Klock wants to encourage tourism and let more people know about the Marseilles Middle East Conflict Wall Memorial.

The fourth candidate for mayor, John Grooms, wasn’t at the forum.

The WCMY news team moderated.

The forum can be heard here. A technical problem prevented us from recording candidate introductions. The recording starts with the first question of the evening.
