ROUNDUP: Marquette Softball wins 5th straight game


Marquette 4, Morris 2

MORRIS – Emma Thomas hit a two-run home run for the Lady Crusaders (7-2), and Makenna Tkach struck out 12 in a complete game victory while allowing only two unearned runs.

Ellen Wheatland had a double among her three hits, and Mallory Martini tallied three hits and an RBI as Marquette stretched its winning streak to five games.

Herscher 3, Streator 0

STREATOR – Anna Yanek doubled and Jadyn Hansen added a single for the Lady Bulldogs (6-4, 0-1), but that was all they managed in their Interstate Eight opener.

Yanek allowed two earned runs over four innings to take the loss. The teams play at Herscher today.

Somonauk 10, Serena 4

SOMONAUK – Susan Tuftie slugged a two-run double for Serena (3-8, 2-2), and she and Taylor Staton each finished with two hits in the loss. The series switches to Serena and concludes today.


Rochelle 9, Ottawa 6

ROCHELLE – John Bruner and Jared Herzog each drove in two runs for the Pirates (7-4, 0-1), who led 6-1 before the Hubs peeled off a six-run fifth inning to take the lead.

Tyler Carson contributed two hits in the loss. The series continues today at 4:30 p.m. on 1430 WCMY.

Somonauk 20, Serena 0 (5 innings)

SOMONAUK – The Bobcats poured on 10 runs in the third inning and eight more in the fourth while limiting Serena (2-6, 2-2) to only one hit, a double from Riley McNelis. The series concludes at Serena today.


Ottawa 3-1 Rochelle

OTTAWA – Gabi Krueger, Reagan Shea and Kaitlyn Falaney scored for the Lady Pirates (5-1-1, 2-0). Shea and Shelbi Walsh added assists, and Tanlee Eich made seven saves.
