Ottawa Elementary District to require more proof of residency

The Ottawa Elementary School District will require families to show more proof that they live within the boundaries of the school district for next year.

Supt. Cleve Threadgill told the board of education Tuesday the district has looked into students who may not actually live in the district.

Threadgill says the district is paying around $10,370 per student per year for instruction and facilities.

He thinks that people who attend schools in the district should be paying the appropriate taxes to do so.

Information will be sent to parents soon on what the district will need ahead of next year.

Students who are found not be living in the district can appeal to the school board to stay.
