TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Marquette Baseball now 15-0, MA Softball runs win streak to 8


Marquette 8, Peoria Christian 1

PEORIA – Haydon Price drove in a run and finished with three hits, including a double. Nate Melvin added two hits and two RBIs for the still-unbeaten Crusaders (15-0, 7-0), Max Donahue added a hit and two RBIs, and Logan Komater (RBI) and Hunter McAlpine each contributed two hits in the victory.

Winning pitcher Bryce Jones (3-0) fanned nine batters over 5 1/3 innings of three-hit, one-run ball.

Sterling 5, Ottawa 0

OTTAWA – Wyatt Hill tallied three hits from the leadoff spot, and John Bruner added a single and a double for the Pirates (9-7, 2-3).

Tyler Carson (1-2) struck out six and allowed three earned runs over six innings in the loss.

Seneca 6, Putnam County 5

GRANVILLE – The Fighting Irish (10-4, 6-0) scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for the victory. Cole Underhill hit a two-run double to put Seneca ahead and on the way to its fifth consecutive win.

Myles Mitchell had a single and two RBIs, Gage Cryder finished with three hits and Sam Grushkin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Grushkin (3-2) struck out six batters and allowed three earned runs over six innings for the win. Cryder pitched the seventh for the save.

Serena 12, Earlville-Leland 2

SERENA – Ivan Stafford launched a two-run homer and finished with three hits and four RBIs for the Huskers (5-8, 4-2). Brody Faivre and Riley McNelis each added three hits and an RBI, and Connor Baker added a two-run single in the victory.

Baker struck out 10 batters in a complete game victory, scattering five hits and two walks.

Streator drops I-8 tilt


Ottawa 6, Morris 2

OTTAWA – Molly Harris tripled and tallied two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Pirates (11-2-1, 2-1-1). Zoe Harris added an RBI double and Abi Claus contributed a run-scoring single.

Abby Bukantis (2-0) earned the win with seven innings of two-run ball. She struck out four Morris hitters in the contest.

Marquette 12, Peoria Christian 0 (5 innings)

PEORIA – Ellen Wheatland drove in five runs for the Lady Crusaders (10-2, 6-0), finishing with two hits in total. Hannah Cowie added three hits and three RBIs, and Makenna Tkach doubled twice and drove in two runs.

Tkach (9-2) also fired a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as Marquette won for the eighth straight game.

Manteno 12, Streator 2 (5 innings)

MANTENO – Grace Schmitz smacked a two-run double to tie the game in the third inning, but Manteno answered with six runs in the fourth inning and never looked back.

Ellie Magana added two hits for the Lady Bulldogs (8-5, 1-2).

Earlville-Leland 6, Serena 5

SERENA – Taylor Staton recorded three hits and two RBIs to lead Serena (3-13, 2-4). Katie Baker (triple), Susan Tuftie (double, RBI) and Malachi Staton (RBI) each contributed two hits in the loss.

Seneca sweeps Putnam County

GRANVILLE – Seneca won the opener in five innings, 11-0. Cassidy Draves and Grace Flatness each finished with two hits and three RBIs, with Draves hitting a home run and Flatness tallying a double. Winning pitcher Anne Krull fanned seven batters over four shutout innings.

Seneca also won the second game, 15-0 in four innings. Flatness hit another double and had three hits and two RBIs in the contest while Kylie Winsor (double, single) and Maddy Klicker (single) each drove in two runs. Flatness tossed a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.


Yorkville 5, Ottawa 0

YORKVILLE – The Pirates dropped to 1-1 in NIB12 play.

Saint Bede 3, Streator 2

PERU – Greg Rashid posted a double-bagel victory at No. 1 singles, and the Bulldogs earned a win at No. 1 doubles by default.


Geneseo 6-0 Ottawa

GENESEO – Tanlee Eich made 16 saves for the Lady Pirates (6-2-2, 3-1).

Streator earns I-8 win


Seneca sweeps eight-team meet


Ottawa picks up road NIB12 win


Ottawa 4, Yorkville 1

YORKVILLE – Ed Cheli (6-3, 6-2) and Ryan O’Connor (6-3, 6-1) won singles matches for the Corsairs. Will Goetz and Anthony Miller rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 win at No. 2 doubles, while Leo Volker and Logan Goetsch teamed for a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles.


IVCC takes two at Sauk Valley

DIXON – The Eagles won the opener, 6-1, behind a six-hit complete game from Streator alum Brenna McCann. Fellow former Lady Bulldog Lindsey Salata added a hit and an RBI in the victory.

IVCC (13-5, 8-0) put the mercy rule into effect with a 10-1 five-inning win in the nightcap. Marquette graduate Maddie Dougherty also tossed a six-hit complete game, and added a hit and an RBI in the contest. Streator alum Shea Moritz added a home run and two RBIs.
