County Board vote reverses employee pay suspensions, but deputy auditors can still face discipline

A 24 to two vote Monday takes back a 14 to ten vote earlier this month suspending pay for two deputy auditors charged with stealing money in an overtime pay padding scheme. After an hour-and-a-half in closed session, the LaSalle County Board concluded it violated a labor contract in the earlier vote by not following disciplinary procedures previously agreed on. Board Chairman Jim Olson believes the vote Monday undoes the potential damage.

But that doesn’t mean Pamela Wright and Tori Artman will always continue drawing pay while not being allowed to work. Olson says the Salary and Labor Committee has the power to discipline them, it will soon, and that could include firing them.

Board members Steven Tuftie and Curtis Faber voted against the reversal Monday. Randy Freeman, Jerry Myers, and Kindra Pottinger weren’t at the meeting. All other board members voted yes.

Olson says the board action is independent of the criminal cases against Wright, Artman, and Auditor Jody Wilkinson.
