State offering interest and penalty waivers for flood victims who can’t pay their taxes

Gov. Pritzker says people in the 34 counties he put in a disaster declaration for the flooding can be waived penalties and interest on their tax bills. A statement from his office says taxpayers asking for such waivers should send the Illinois Department of Revenue brief written statements about why they can’t pay on time yet. Taxes covered are income, sales, withholding, and several specialty and excise taxes. LaSalle, Grundy, Putnam, Bureau, and Woodford counties are among those in the flood disaster area.
