Peru man accused of threatening to commit mass school shooting

33-year-old Steven A. Tutko, of Peru, is under arrest for allegedly threatening to commit a mass school shooting.

Peru police say the threat was left as a voicemail at State Sen. Sue Rezin’s Office in Peru Monday.

The message didn’t say what school. All schools in the area were alerted.

There were other threats too, but Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei wouldn’t say what they were.

He says Sen. Rezin wasn’t in any danger.

Tutko became a suspect Tuesday morning and was arrested in the afternoon from his home in the 2800 block of 4th Street.

Police have had dealings with him before

He’s being held on $100,000 bond.
