Elected auditor ready to take her case to trial in overtime pay theft case

LaSalle County Auditor Jody Wilkinson is scheduled for trial Monday (May 20). Judge Michael C. Jansz went over some details Friday about how he intends to seat a jury and what kinds of testimony won’t be allowed.

Wilkinson is accused of helping her two employees steal unearned overtime pay by adding hours they didn’t work to their time cards. Those employees, Tori Artman and Pamela Wright, may also be called as witnesses. But since they also face charges, they can use their rights not to say anything that can be used against them and thus could say very little.

The judge may need to rule Monday on whether Wilkinson can claim or suggest she’s not guilty because she herself didn’t profit from the alleged scheme. The prosecution is asking to bar such hints on the grounds that the crime she’s accused of doesn’t require her to have benefited financially from the act.
