Seneca to compete in eight State finals

CHARLESTON – In IHSA Class 1A State preliminaries at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston, Mara Bruno reached the final in the long jump (17 feet, 4 3/4 inches), 100-meter dash (12.30 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.32).

Brooklyn Giertz is through to the final in the pole vault (10-0) and Erica Techmanski qualified for the final day in the shot put (37-11). Audrey Jenkins will compete in the 3,200 final, which does not have prelims.

Seneca will also run in the finals in the 3,200-meter relay (10:04.96) and the 800-meter relay (1:46.60), after breaking the school record in the latter.

Finals are Saturday. Class 2A and 3A prelims are today, with Ottawa’s Maddy Smith (pole vault) and Sam Satterfield (discus, shot put) competing along with Lana Krohe (shot put) of Streator.

ROCK ISLAND – In a battle of ICA No. 3-ranked teams, Zoe Harris and Cassie Turk had the only hits for the Lady Pirates (21-7). Abby Bukantis (3-1) allowed three earned runs over six innings in the loss.

OTTAWA – Neuqua Valley won the IHSA Class 3A Ottawa Sectional with 113 points, defeating runner-up Oswego by 61 points.
