UNDATED – Luke Couch and John Thompson of Marquette have been named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A All-State Team.
Couch earned three saves in the postseason and got the final three outs in the championship game against Gibault Catholic, allowing three earned runs over 15.1 innings for the season. The sophomore also had a prolific season at the plate, hitting .413 with 13 doubles, 28 RBIs and 44 runs scored.
The super sophomore was particularly good in the playoffs. He hit .458, drove in seven runs and scored 10 times over seven postseason games.
Thompson got the win in the title game and finished his junior season with an 11-0 mark, a 1.75 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched. The big right-hander won all four of his playoff starts with a 1.88 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 26 innings.
