Ottawa Parents wanting to send treats with their kids to school for special events will have fewer options.
The Ottawa Elementary Board of Education voted last week to approve new requirements of what can and can’t be brought in.
Director of Food Services Vicki McConnell:
Some changes are that foods need to be less than 200 calories and any juice must be 100% fruit juice.
McConnell says parents will be made aware of all the changes.
She says it’s part of the district’s overall wellness plan.
Last year, the school board voted to prohibit homemade treats.
