Streator to ask for highway project money from new gasoline tax

Since the state’s charging more money for gasoline taxes, Streator city officials want to make sure some of the highway funds come their way. Commissioner Ed Brozak says even communities not right next to an Interstate highway need good state and U.S. highways going through them.

City commissioners may sign on to a letter to send to state lawmakers and other state officials. One project they’re expecting, this year if funding is available soon enough, is repaving Illinois 18 from the Lostant area to Streator. Brozak hopes Illinois 18 east of the city will be redone and the idea of a four-lane Illinois 23 north to Ottawa is considered again.
