Former mayor pleads guilty in prostitution case

Former Sandwich mayor Richard “Rick” Olson is the third person to plead guilty out of nine arrested in a prostitution sting in LaSalle County. The 66-year old Olson was in court before Judge H. Chris Ryan this morning. Olson will pay $750 in fines and costs, and he’ll serve a year on court supervision. Olson had little more to say after his court hearing.

Assistant State’s Attorney Leila Siena says Olson worked out a deal to pay for a sexual act with a person who was actually an informant working with sheriff’s deputies at an Ottawa hotel in March. The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department arrested Olson and eight other people in May after a prostitution investigation in March and April. The six men still facing charges have court hearings scheduled on various dates from next week to early September.
