Streator to borrow $1.7 million for sewer separation

Streator City Council members this week approved borrowing $1.7 million for separating the storm and sanitary sewers in the Center St. area. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says the project is expected to start around September 1 and last a year. The city has until 2050 to separate the storm and sanitary sewers to satisfy U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

Opperman Construction of Pontiac is doing the Center St. area work. Palm says City Hall will alert people about upcoming street closures it’ll require.
