Chemical cloud over Ottawa business cleared

The Ottawa Fire Department says a hazmat team was called, but it wasn’t needed to deal with a chemical leak at Crystal Metals, the titanium plant east of Ottawa, Thursday evening.

Employees think the white cloud that formed over, and inside, of a building was Anhydrous Aluminum Chloride, a corrosive gas.

An air scrubber that should have turned on automatically didn’t, so employees turned it on manually.

Fire crews think that was enough to air the building out.
