Since the program started a decade ago, P2D2 has collected more than six tons of medicine for safe disposal. Illinois Valley Community Hospital arranged for drug disposal boxes to be put in the Ottawa, Streator, Oglesby, Peru, and Mendota police stations. Drugs put in them are kept out of landfills, waterways, and the hands of people who might misuse them. The drugs put in the boxes can be over-the-counter, off-the-rack, or prescription medications.
