** Billy picked one of my favorite Beastie tunes from Check Your Head.  The video pays homage to my all-time favorite concert video, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii

Tuesday, August 13th  sponsored by All About Personnel

  • Ordinary World – Duran Duran
  • Ball & Chain – Social Distortion

  • When I Come Around – Green Day (live at Woodstock ’94)**
  • Higher Ground – Red Hot Chili Peppers (live at Woodstock ’94)**

** On this date in 1997, South Park made it’s premiere on Comedy Central.  The debut episode was titled Cartman gets an Anal Probe.’  22 years later, it’s still an equal opportunity offender!

**Woodstock ’94 took place August 12th – 14th.  It definitely had more of an original Woodstock vibe than the disastrous 1999, or the aborted 2019 version.

The bill was stacked too.  Here’s a career making performance, complete with Mud Fight from Green Day.

Anthony Kiedis had the great idea to wear LIGHT BULBS on their heads for this show.  He didn’t make it through the first song.  The rest of the band quickly followed suit.  And it was Dave Navarro’s 1st gig with the band!

Wednesday, August 14th  sponsored by Rosati’s Pizza of Mendota

  • Outside (live) – Aaron Lewis f. Fred Durst++

^^ Friends is coming to theaters for its 25th Anniversary.  They’ll be showing 12 classic friends episodes.  Unfortunately, this isn’t one of them.

**Foo Fighters made their TV debut on this date in 1995 on the Late Show with David Letterman.  Gotta love the classic Grohl-hair-blocking-the-eyes performance, and the isolated bass from Nate.

++ Aaron Lewis had been working on this song for a while, but the lyrics were never finalized.  He would often make up some of the lyrics on the spot (except for the chorus).  This version was released as a single.  The version that appeared on their next album was a little different.  I always thought this version was better.

Thursday, August 8th sponsored by Electronics Junkyard

^^ Here’s what they look like today.  Apparently no longer too sexy for their shirt.

** Hit #1 on this date in 1992 and stayed there for 13 weeks, breaking a decades-old record held by Elvis.  Whitney Houston’s version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ broke the record again later in 1992, but Boys II Men reclaimed the throne on their duet with Mariah Carey ‘One Sweet Day.’  It was also on the Boomerang soundtrack, probably Eddie Murphy’s last really funny film featuring this NSFW scene-stealer from John Witherspoon.
