Newark-Serena’s Baker takes medalist at Indian Invite
SANDWICH – Newark-Serena finished fifth in the 15-team tournament Thursday at Edgebrook Golf Course.
Playing under Stableford rules, Connor Baker tallied 78 strokes and 32 points to lead the Norsemen, then birdied the first hole of a sudden death playoff to take medalist honors.
Ottawa places 16th in season-opening Prep Tour High School Showcase
LA SALLE – At Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course, Ottawa competed in a strong field that was led by reigning Class 3A champion Hinsdale Central, which won the overall team title with only 298 strokes. The Pirates tallied 360 strokes overall.
T.J. McDonnell led Ottawa with an 86. Caden Ericzon shot an 89, Drake Stoudt posted a 91 and Jonathan Cooper carded a 94 to round out the Pirates’ scoring.
Brevin Knight of Normal U-High fired a 3-under 69 to earn medalist honors.

OTTAWA – Garrett Cupples had a double among his two hits for the Rams (1-1) on Thursday. Garrett Shymanski earned the pitching win with 1 2/3 innings of one-run relief with five strikeouts, and Grason Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
Morris 3, Shepherd 0
OTTAWA – Jack Henson and Julian Alexander both doubled for the Rams (0-1) in their season opener Wednesday. Ryan Peterson struck out six batters and allowed a hit and an earned run over four strong innings in a tough-luck loss.
Serena 4, Holy Family 0
SERENA – Maddie Glade struck out 16 hitters and scattered six hits Thursday in a complete game shutout. Paisley Twait added a solo home run in the victory, while Glade and Jenna Setchell also drove in runs for Serena.
