The Illinois Treasurer’s Office offers a way to save for college.
Treasure Michael Frerichs says you can take care of two things while visiting his office’s website.
Frerichs says the plans can be used for tuition, books, and other costs.
There are some fees to make an account, but contributions are eligible for state tax deductions and growth isn’t taxed by the federal government.
Frerichs says kids who know they have a college savings account in their name are more likely to attend college.
