County Board honors retiring central services director

A long time LaSalle County employee got honors at the County Board meeting yesterday. Cheryl Vatland started working for the county in 1982 when it had a commissary. Two years later, she moved into the Central Services Department. She became the department director in 1994.

Vatland told the County Board yesterday, she and her husband Roger have been planning to retire together for a long time. He worked in the county’s maintenance department and retired last Friday after nearly 29 years.

The Department of Central Services is one of the behind-the-scenes sections of county government. It provides no services directly to the public. For the other county departments, it provides printing, record archiving, and postage.
