LaSalle County Democratic Party Chair Dani Brzozowski believes the 16th Congressional District’s image as too Republican for a Democrat to win is incorrect. She announced her candidacy to supporters Tuesday night in LaSalle.
Brzozowski believes incumbent Republican Adam Kinzinger is vulnerable on economic issues. She says he should have been outraged that Del Monte is closing its Mendota packing facility.
Brzozowski claims higher unemployment in the congressional district than can be supported from numbers put out by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. She says the rate tops 10%. IDES numbers for July, the latest available, show county-by-county rates ranging from 3.7% in Iroquois County to 6.8% in Boone County. Rockford itself was at 6.5%, according to the BLS.
Brzozowski believes a Democratic campaign in the district is viable despite the national Democratic Party’s past decisions to spend money in other places it considers more winnable. She says the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s feelings about it only motivate her. She says the non-believers don’t know her and the people in her network.
