The Marseilles City Council last week voted to update the rules of zoning variances.
City Attorney Mike Fuller says the idea is make the process of getting some kind of zoning variance clearer.
Fuller says a common one is when people want to build closer to a property line than what is in the zoning code.
Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the update also adds a new appeals process.
The review process includes a public hearing where the person accused of violating conditions set for a variance can speak.
