Streator neighborhood sewer passes weather’s stress test

A part of Streator where home plumbing outlets led to old mine shafts has been upgraded to a proper sewer system. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says that took care of sewer backups during heavy rain in the Barlow Addition.

Residents petitioned to be annexed in 2015. The city went ahead and annexed the area near John St., 12th St., Saratoga Lane, and Sunbury Drive. Then it got a grant to cover 90% of the $1.9 million cost to run two miles of storm and sanitary sewer lines for 58 homes.
