Stop smoking with the Great American Smoke Out

Story by Martha Hoffman

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says over 34 million Americans smoke.

If you’re one of them, the American Cancer Society hopes you will quit for a day as part of their annual event.

This Thursday is the Great American Smoke Out.

The LaSalle County Health Department is encouraging smokers to take the opportunity to quit permanently and enjoy the immediate and long-term benefits, like reduced risk of certain cancers and heart disease.

More information is available from the LaSalle County Health Department’s website or by calling 815-433-3366.

Help is also available by calling the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Quit Line at 1-866-QUIT-YES.
