New businesses could soon pay registration fee in Ottawa

Ottawa City Hall wants to hear from people doing business in town before they start. New rules the City Council put on file this week would require business owners to pay $100 one time to register with City Hall. Mayor Dan Aussem says it doesn’t apply to businesses already operating.

He says safety issues have been raised when a building goes from being empty to suddenly having a store in it.

The new rules would take effect January 1.
