Local communities getting sewer, water, and housing grants

The city of LaSalle is getting $500,000 from a state grant for sewer work later this year. City Engineer Brian Brown says the city has done a lot of what it needs to do to separate the storm and sanitary sewers. It may be done with its U.S. E.P.A. requirement in just five or six years.

Ottawa is also getting a $500,000 grant for storm and sanitary sewer separation, Spring Valley is getting $300,000 for a sewer project, and Depue is getting $500,000 for a water tower.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is providing those grants, along with $500,000 for Spring Valley to rehabilitate some homes that need it.
