The Marseilles Streets Department is rethinking its use of salt during the winter.
Commissioner of Streets Nathan Schaefer says it has to do with the amount of rock being mixed in with the salt.
He says the city will start using more salt and less rock.
There has to be enough salt to last through the winter.
The city can buy more, but at inflated prices.
Schaefer says higher rock mixes will be used only on hills for traction. If the salt mix with less rock works, the city will buy more salt for next winter.
